About Zane and Joy
Why they are here
Zane and Joy Salyers

Bro. Zane Salyers was born in Kingsport, Tennessee. Growing up, his family moved from state to state to follow the jobs his dad had as a construction project manager. Bro. Zane got saved after his family moved back to Kingsport and he attended a church his relatives attended. He got saved when he was 16 years old when the church youth group went to a youth conference in North Carolina. He simply repented (turned from) his sin, confessed it to God, and put his trust in what Christ did for him. For three years Bro. Zane "ran" from God's call for him to preach. He was afraid to get in front of people and thought that there was NO WAY God would call HIM to preach. Finally, when he was 19, he helped take a group of kids to this same youth conference. A preacher preached a powerful message on giving in to the will of God. Bro. Zane knelt on a concrete isle way in the auditorium, asked God for forgiveness for not answering the call earlier and determined to be a youth pastor to show teens that God can give them a better life. Two months later he was at Pensacola Christian College and graduated in 2003. While at PCC he met his future wife, Joy.
Sis. Joy was born Joy Dawn Rulapaugh in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her dad had just finished Bible college at Tennessee Temple University and was travelling as an evangelist from church to church. When Sister Joy was 5 her dad became the pastor of Salem Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. That was her home church for 20 years. The next year, at 6 years old, Sis. Joy trusted Jesus to be her Savior. When she was 12 years old she went to a Christian camp and surrendered her life for full time ministry. She eventually went to Pensacola Christian College to major in music and during her sophomore year she met her future husband, Bro. Zane. They were just friends at first, but then started dating and eventually got engaged after their 2003 graduation.
Shortly after graduation, Sis. Joy's dad found out he had a tumor in the back of his brain and, a few months later, lung cancer. Because he had intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Bro. Zane preached 2-3 times a week, worked with the teens, and helped start a nursing home ministry, all while working a 40-hour-a-week job. Sis. Joy's dad passed away in March, 2004. Bro. Zane and Sis. Joy helped in the church, but felt God was leading them in another direction.
Soon after they were married, God moved them to Batavia Baptist Temple. They desire to see the teenagers grow in the Lord, follow the Lord, and reach others for the Lord. They have grown closely with the teens and love their families.
