The prefix anti- has two possible meanings. It usually is thought of as "against"; therefore,the Antichrist is "against Christ." This will certainly be true. But the prefix also means "in the place of" or "in the stead of." He will come "in place of Christ" as a counterfeit, false Messiah. He will come promising peace. Halfway through the tribulation, his true charecter will be revealed. The word "antichrist" is found only in the epistles of John, the author of the book of Reveltaion.

One theory about the Antichrist is that he could be Judas Iscariot (the disciple that betrayed Jesus). He (other than the Antichrist) is the only person ever called the Son of Perdition (John 17:12). In Acts 1:45; it says that when Judas died, he went to “a place of his own”. The Antichrist will come up from the pit (Revelation 17:8). Satan will possess the Antichrist (Revelation 16:12-14; 13:10), and Judas was the only other person recorded in the Bible possessed by Satan (John 13:26-27). Satan organized the first rebellion against God, and he will organize the last.

The number 666 tells us a lot about the Antichrist and the Tribulation: six things we know, six things we don’t know, and six things we should do:
